fourth blog from My Son

Went for an interesting excursion to MY SON today.  My Son "pronounced mee sone" is an ancient Hindu religious site from the late 4th century built by the Cham people to honour the well armed god Shiva.  It lasted close to a thousand years of continuous occupation the longest period of development of any city in the Mekong region. Only about twenty structures survive where 68 once stood due to indiscriminate carpet bombing by American B52's in 1969.  One of the interesting things to see were all the shell craters that still dot the landscape.

My Son is nestled in a lush valley surrounded by mountains and dotted
with springs and small streams.

Long forgotten art from a bygone era.

Bomb craters are still everywhere

Charming the Cham

The trip out was by bus, it takes about an hour and half from Hoi An but the trip back was by riverboat.  It included lunch and a stop at the carpentry village where all the wood carving and boat building takes place.  All this for the low, low price of $9.00 American.

Rehydrating in the heat

Rented a motorcycle Tuesday.  Dianne made me go out and practice for an hour before she'd get on the bike with me.  Traffic was horrendous and so unpredictable.  Had a good time but had to pay attention every second.  Met a Russian at the hotel covered in bandages who had had an accident.  I asked if it was his fault he replied, " no way, I was reading a text on my phone and someone hit me".  I guess a matter of perspective.

Very brave woman getting on the back of a motorbike with me.

Guess who stole Peewee Herman's bike

Been working out with Fred and Barney. Getting hard now!!!

Found a bathing suit store on our bike excursion where Dianne shopped for a new suit.  She needed a new one because her old one developed a hole in the knee.  Found a nice one in black in case we have to go to a beach blanket funeral.
Are you on the list?

My beard turned green in the pool.  See photo. It's not easy being green. It hurts my feelings but Di keeps calling me Kermit and saying Moi a lot.  By the way the rumours that Miss Piggy appears nude in a bath scene in her new movie is a lot of hogwash.

We keep meeting interesting fellow travellers.  Became friends with a Portuguese musician who travels and plays at festivals all over the world, Daniel Bernardo. We  checked out his new video on Facebook called 'naked skin' quite impressed.  Had drinks with new friends today from OZ, others from New Zealand and met some wonderful young adventurers from Germany. All and all a good day.
Speaking Spanish with a new friend from Argentina

Young Germans we spent a pleasant afternoon with
rehydrating on the second floor terrace overlooking
the river.

First thing I ask Aussies "is there anyone left in  the homeland or are they all travelling?"
