A taste of Malaysia

My brother Norm is a retired architect and every time we enter a new city like Kuala Lumpur I turn to Dianne and do the Liberace voice and say" I wish my brother Norm was here."  That said, it's because it is so much more interesting to view art and architecture with someone who appreciates it and can help you see it with a greater clarity and understanding.  Kuala Lumpur is an architect's delight.

The 88 story Petronas Twin Towers clad with glass and steel linked by a cross walk dominate the skyline.  The KL tower with its panoramic view is also a must see, the central market, Chinatown, the historic railway station etc, etc, are all on constant display and within walking distance of our hotel.  We spent the first few days exploring, shopping and eating.  Wandering around rubber necking our heads on a swivel trying desperately to take it all in.

After a few days we pulled ourselves away from the city sights and ventured to the botanical gardens, enjoying the bird sanctuary, the orchid gardens and the beautiful butterfly conservatory. After a week in Kuala Lumpur we flew to the beautiful island of Langkawi, one of several islands that dot the coastal waters of Malaysia.

We ensconced ourselves in the historic Bella Vista hotel where we remained for close to three weeks of relaxation and pampering.   The hotel gave us a luxury suite and spoiled us rotten, they know how to treat VIP's from Canada.

A scale model of the twin towers.  It was a miserable rainy day
and the outdoor photos disappointing to say the least.

A few days later and the skies cleared for some outdoor shots
