Mad dogs and Canadians go out in the noon day sun,
Aussies stay cool by the pool,
With next to nothing on,
They laugh at the Northern fool
And keep a Fosters to sip on,
But mad dogs and Canadians go out in the noon day sun.
Mad dogs and Canadians go out in the noon day sun,
Whether in lovely Hoi An,
Or visiting old Saigon,
Those canny Germans are smart
They won't leave their rooms
And have the AC on.
But mad dogs and Canadians go out in the noon day sun.
Mad dogs and Canadians go out in the noon day sun,
The Vietnamese don´t care to,
The Chinese wouldn´t dare to,
The Spanish and Mexicans sleep soundly,
Usually from twelve to one
But mad dogs and Canadians go out in the noon day sun.
With apologies to Noel Coward
We have developed a routine here in Hoi An where we stopped to sojourn for a month. We discovered that in order to get a most productive and fulfilling day we needed to discipline ourselves with a tough regimen. We awaken at about six in the morning and laze around the hotel room checking our e-mail, Facebook and news, often on the balcony until 6:57 at which time we head to breakfast which starts at 7:00. We need to be the first ones there in order to get our usual table and first choice of the fresh fruit.
Next it's back to the room and out to the pool, must get there early to claim our favourite umbrella and lounge chairs. We linger there swimming, reading and visiting with other travellers until our biological clocks tell us it's time for lunch when we get on our bicycles and head downtown to the market, notice it is now the hottest part of the day and we are out in the noon day sun, hence the poem. We usually eat in the market food court, the market covers about 5 city blocks and there is virtually unlimited choice.

What's the difference between a hippo and a zippo. One is big and heavy and the other is a little lighter. See, even you put up with them.
This blog is just a miscellany of Hoi An and some the new friends we've made.
